CC Sabathia might have a familiar face joining him in the Bronx -- former Brewers teammate Mike Cameron.

Multiple Major League sources told MLB.com early Thursday that the Brewers and Yankees had rekindled talks about a trade that would send Cameron to the Yankees for switch-hitter Melky Cabrera.
The move would free payroll space for Milwaukee and give New York a Gold Glove center fielder to play behind Sabathia.

Milwaukee is seeking left-handed bats this winter and also is seeking to re-build its pitching staff in the wake of Sabathia's impending move to New York, though it was immediately unclear whether the Yankees would include pitching in the proposed trade, which was first discussed in October at the General Managers' meetings.

The New York Daily News reported on its Web site early Thursday that a Cameron for Cabrera swap was already in place, citing two Major League sources.

Cabrera was supposed to compete with Brett Gardner during Spring Training for the starting job in center, but the acquisition of Cameron gives the Yankees a three-time Gold Glove Award winner.

Cabrera is coming off a disappointing 2008 season, hitting .249 with eight homers and 37 RBIs in 129 games. Cameron, a former Met, hit .243 with 25 HRs and 70 RBIs in 120 games. He will earn $10 million in 2009.
